Manufacturing Supervisor-2nd Shift

Will perform a variety of management duties, which require a high degree of leadership and technical ability and are complex in nature. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, supervising all assigned personnel, budgeting, communicating with internal and external customers/contacts, and more.

Who you will be working for and with:

You will report directly to Steve Gustafson, Production Manager. You will work among a team who is committed to maintaining our high level of performance. Will work closely with the other existing shift Supervisors.

Some realities of this position:

Our customers have high expectations of us and we place a high value on meeting those expectations across all areas of our company. This is a salary position that will supervise the 2nd shift. Hours are 4:10 p.m. – 2:25 a.m., Monday – Thursday. This position is expected to arrive prior to shift start and leave after shift ends. Overtime hours are scheduled for this shift on Fridays.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervises all assigned personnel.
  • Communicates and enforces all company policies, including safety regulations, quality procedures, and manufacturing processes.
  • Organizes and assigns job duties to meet production requirements and monitors work performance, maintains a high level of productivity and quality while meeting schedule due dates.
  • Works with other department managers and supervisors coordinating activities to meet the production schedules and maintain good working relationships.
  • Conducts performance appraisals for department personnel and participates in payroll adjustments.
  • Administers discipline both written and verbally with manager’s concurrence. Participates in staffing changes made to department personnel.
  • Actively participates as an emergency-response, hazardous material spill team member.

Leadership:

  • Utilizes team-based, problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and implement permanent resolutions.
  • Uses creativity to address manufacturing constraints/challenges to ensure on-time delivery while effectively managing labor costs.
  • Creates a positive atmosphere that fosters an environment of high performance and daily continuous improvement.
  • Provides training opportunities to build team competence. Utilizes cross-training methods to ensure we have adequate coverage to always meet manufacturing requirements.
  • Holds team meetings on a regular basis to promote clear direction, good communication, teamwork, and people involvement.
  • Creates a process to develop key personnel to higher performance and builds talent within your team to support the organization’s future growth.

Management:

  • Participates as a member of the Safety Committee.
  • Stays current on all relevant procedures, rules, regulations and laws, such as LOTO and OSHA.
  • Actively participates as an emergency response hazardous material spill team member.
  • Assists in the development of a department budget and then manages resources with budget constraints.
  • Assists in development of capital proposals.
  • Communicates and enforces all company policies, including safety regulations, quality procedures, and manufacturing processes.
  • Coordinates audits and annual inspections as required to ensure all facility areas and equipment meet code requirements, such as building codes, fire safety and OSHA. Manages vendor support for all equipment and facility repairs, maintenance and upgrades.
  • Set up and maintain preventive maintenance programs and ensure PM program requirements are met.
  • Organizes and manages spare parts inventories with the appropriate level of preparedness while managing costs.
  • Supervises all assigned personnel.
  • In cooperation with other department leaders; organizes and assigns job duties to meet production requirements and monitors work performance, maintaining a high level of productivity and quality while meeting schedule due dates.
  • Administers discipline, both written and verbal with manager’s concurrence. Participates in staffing changes made to department personnel.
  • Conducts performance appraisals for department personnel and participates in payroll adjustments.
  • Manages outside contractor and vendor relationships, ensuring budget and work quality expectations are met and that compliance with all Lexington Manufacturing and regulatory authority policies, procedures and laws are adhered to.

Qualifications:

(The minimum requirements of education and experience, knowledge, special skills, attributes, credentials, ability to endure conditions of work environment, etc. required to perform the job.)

  • High school graduate with 5–7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Previous supervisory or leadership experience required.
  • Experience successfully leading a production team in a manufacturing environment.
  • Possesses a positive attitude and ability to work with people both individually and in a team environment.
  • Communicates well, both written and verbally. Able to use and understand Microsoft office tools (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong manufacturing skills with a good understanding of different manufacturing processes as well as lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Able to read and interpret documents, such as safety procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, technical specifications, drawings, and prints.
  • Has good math capabilities and the ability to understand and utilize those skills to support decisions and actions necessary to meet objectives.
  • Understands different problem-solving techniques and is able to apply this methodology to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Leads from a hands-on position, sets a good example, and takes initiative to make a difference.
