How Innovation Is Shaping Lexington’s Cabinet Door Program
At Lexington Manufacturing, growth often comes from building on existing strengths—expanding capabilities in ways that better serve customers while staying true to the company’s manufacturing roots. That philosophy has guided the development of the Lexington cabinet door program, an initiative focused on delivering high-quality cabinet door solutions backed by thoughtful design, precision manufacturing, and practical problem-solving.
Leading that effort is Cabinet Door Product Manager Steve Bloch. With a background spanning cabinetry, engineering, and product development, Steve brings a unique perspective rooted in understanding how products are made and how they can be improved. His approach is simple: pay attention to the details, listen to customer needs, and look for opportunities to create better solutions.
A Career Built on Understanding the Details
Steve’s path into cabinetry and manufacturing wasn’t defined by a single moment, but by a steady accumulation of hands-on experience. He began his career managing retail display environments made from wood, where he was introduced to the equipment, materials, and processes behind the scenes. Then, he moved into a cabinet shop, learning everything from CNC programming to installation and workflow planning.
While his responsibilities have expanded over the years, his focus has remained the same, understanding how things work and finding ways to make them better.
His connection to woodworking started even earlier. “My dad’s hobby was woodworking,” Steve says. “I think I was born with sawdust in my veins.” That lifelong interest, combined with practical industry experience, has shaped a perspective that values both craftsmanship and innovation.
Building on a Strong Foundation
When Steve joined Lexington, he was aware of the company’s reputation within profile wrapping and component manufacturing. At the time, we produced high-quality components for cabinet door construction, but not the finished doors themselves.
For Steve, that stood out right away. With the right approach, he knew we could expand into a full cabinet door program, offering not just components, but complete, dependable solutions for customers.
That thinking became the foundation for Lexington’s cabinet door program. It wasn’t about reinventing the business overnight. It was about growing intentionally, using existing strengths to deliver more value.
Taking a Closer Look at the Details
As the program evolved, Steve and the team focused on understanding what customers were looking for in today’s market. One area of particular interest was the growing demand for slim shaker cabinet doors.
While these doors offered the clean, modern appearance customers wanted, a closer look revealed opportunities to improve durability, alignment, and long-term performance. Rather than simply replicating existing designs, the team focused on maintaining the desired aesthetic while strengthening the construction behind it.
The result is the LSS (Lexington Signature Slim) door—a design that keeps the look people want while offering a more reliable, repeatable construction method. For Steve, that balance was the goal from the beginning. “We wanted something that not only looks right, but performs the way it should,” he explains. “Something customers can count on day in and day out.”
Building with People, Not Just Products
While technical expertise plays an important role in product development, Steve believes successful solutions come from collaboration.
“It takes a team to get it right,” he says. “Everyone brings a different perspective, and that’s where better ideas come from.”
That collaborative mindset extends beyond Lexington’s walls. Steve enjoys working directly with customers to understand the goals, challenges, and expectations behind each project. Whether evaluating style options, discussing construction techniques, or helping solve unique application challenges, his approach is centered on listening first and finding practical solutions.
Looking to the Future
Looking ahead, as the cabinet industry continues to evolve, Steve stays grounded in the same approach that’s defined his path—pay attention to the details, stay open to new ideas, and keep asking how things can be better.
It’s not about chasing trends or quick wins. It’s about building something that lasts, improving it over time, and taking pride in the work along the way. That kind of thinking doesn’t just create better cabinet doors, it reflects a genuine pride in getting the details right.
Steve will be sharing more about Lexington’s new cabinet door program at the International Woodworking Fair (IWF) in Booth C870. Lexington invites attendees to stop by to learn more, discuss upcoming projects, and explore how Lexington can support their cabinet door needs.
